This photo is a copy of one taken at the 1924 PGA Championship held at French Lick, Indiana. The picture is unique in a number of ways: Walter hagen and James Barnes appear twice in the photo, at both ends of the field (they ran around behind the cameraman as he panned the field from left to right and got in line at the far end before the lens reached them); Gene Sarazen, the first golf professional to win the Grand Slam, as we know it today, appears in the photo; Stewart ‘Kilty’ Maiden, who was the instructor of Bobby Jones at East Lake Country Club in Atlanta, appears in the photo, as well as Leo Diegel, Olin Dutra, Cyril Walker, Billy Burke, Willie Macfarlane, and Johnny Farrell, all major championship winners. In all, 30 major championships are represented in the photo. Other notables are Harry ‘Lighthorse’ Cooper, Al and Abe Espinosa, Olin and Mortie Dutra, Al and Henry Ciuci, Craig Wood, Wiffie Cox, ‘Wild Bill’ Melhorn, Bobby Cruikshank, Ted Ray, George Sargent, Emmitt French, Al Watrous and Fred MacLeod. Thirty-nine players have been identified to the best of our ability. There are others in the field not yet identified.
